Ukrainian post office works well, please allow around 10 -14 days for your postal letter to arrive to the addressee in Ukraine. However, if you want to add some gift or anything valuable to it, please know some peculiarities - cases often have occurred that letters have been opened at the post office, and valuables stolen, an addressee would receive an empty re-sealed letter. So be aware of such possibility.
If you wish to use DHL, UPS, Express Mail, or any other express mail service some simple advice from our experience may help. First of all, be aware our customs check all packages incoming to Ukraine, and the items inside the parcel must be declared. Declaration must be on the outside of the package, not inside. At that, if you declare things inside as "new", your addressee will be asked to custom clear the items in accordance with custom fees accepted by our country custom rules, which are quite draconian - we had a case when a man sent to a lady a parcel with two t-shirts and a silver chain, and the girl had to pay at our customs around $120 to receive it. Here below are some simple rules, got as a piece of advice from Michael, one of our client, and American man who has met his fianc?e in our agency, and he has been sending parcels into Ukraine quite regular:
- Do Not declare anything other than clothing and papers and cards they usually do not check any further
- I send by regular Airmail nothing fancy just addresses and such
- Use agency address but put in care of on listing
I have always found the gray areas easy yet I would never suggest to send food or medicine as even our government gets upset with bomb scares and agriculture problems.
From us we can add, declare the things inside as used ones, not new.
Have good luck in surprising your dear ones in the Ukraine!
